Father/Son Retreat Summer 2011

Following the monastic routine of Prayer, Work, and Study, the father and son retreatants prayed right with the monks, and listened to talks on Our Lady, on how to pray the Mass, and on Lectio Divina.

All the retreatants followed the complete monastic schedule, rising at 5:30 and maintaining the Grand Silence after Compline at 9:30 p.m. Our priests and brothers gave talks on subjects like "Lectio Divina," explaining how the modern mind is filled with useless, unholy, and sometimes harmful information. Sports trivia, politics -- hundreds of sheer distractions. The monk - and monastic retreatants - are asked to ponder the Gospel stories, to fill their minds with spiritual thoughts, thoughts which will help them get to heaven

Occasionally some needed to take time out to train their shovel to stand up, but 50 yards of mulch disappeared as the father/son teams dumped wheelbarrowsful under all the trees around the grounds.

 Mike Gibbs' son, Sean, came with dad and older brother from Florida. Mike (Fr. James' cousin, obvious instilled a strong work ethic in in boys. They never stopped and they smiled the whole time!

 After dinner, a well-deserved moment of relaxation at sunset overlooking the serene Nashua River Valley.
